Justin Ellin is a Nuclear Engineering graduate student at the University of California, Berkeley and a NSF research fellow. He is interested in the study of high-energy gamma ray imaging systems for high radiation field environments. Such systems have possible applications in both characterizing spent fuel pools in nuclear accidents such as at Fukushima as well as validating dose distributions in ion cancer therapy. He has a B.A. in Physics from UC Berkeley and worked for several years in the Physics Research Laboratory at UCSF on projects related to novel nuclear imaging techniques and tracers in PET, SPECT, and X-Ray CT. His interests include science education for under-represented high school students and public outreach about our radioactive world. Upon completion of his degree, Justin plans to become a researcher working in Medical Physics.
