Joanna Szornel
Graduate Student
Dept. of Nuclear Engineering
University of California, Berkeley
Joanna Szornel is currently a PhD student in the nuclear engineering department at UC Berkeley. Her research focus is on radiation detection instrumentation for nuclear physics experiments and applications. She is currently working on high purity germanium detector development for spectroscopy and imaging at very high rates. This project is being carried out at Lawrence Berkeley National Lab (LBNL) by the applied nuclear physics and nuclear structure groups. She has a B.A. in physics from UC Berkeley and completed a post-B.A. appointment at UC Berkeley working on design and characterization of electronics for the ALICE experiment’s Inner Tracking System (ITS). Upon completion of her degree,Joanna plans to continue performing research in radiation detection instrumentation.
